Cornflower Aromatic Water for the Eyes: Advice from the Vet

Acqua Aromatica Fiordaliso per occhi: i consigli del veterinario

As a vet, I often meet cat owners who neglect their pets' eye hygiene because they think they are cleaning themselves. While it's true that cats are very meticulous when it comes to their hygiene, there are situations where a little human help can make a big difference, especially when it comes to grooming the eye area.

Why eye hygiene is so important for cats

Cats' eyes are sensitive, and although they normally clean themselves, irritation, redness or excessive discharge can occur, especially in older, sick cats or cats with certain conditions, such as chronic lacrimation. Regular, gentle cleaning can prevent the development of more serious problems and maintain your cat's well-being. This is where Cornflower Aromatic Water comes into play.

Cornflower Aromatic Water: a natural remedy

Aromatic Water is a product I often recommend for eye hygiene in cats. It is a natural distillate extracted from the flowers of the cornflower (Centaurea cyanus) and is known for its soothing and decongestant properties. Thanks to its gentle formula, it is particularly suitable for treating redness, swelling and other minor irritations that can plague our feline friends.

When to use it

If you notice that your cat's eyes are red and swollen or that discharge has formed, Cornflower Aromatic Water can provide immediate relief. It is particularly useful for cats with chronic tearing problems or for cats who are unable to self-clean as effectively as they used to due to their age or health. Even if your cat is in perfect health, regular cleaning of the eye area is a good preventative measure.

How to proceed

The application is simple: soak a gauze with Cornflower Aromatic Water and gently rub it over your cat's eye area. I recommend using a different gauze for each eye and moving gently from the inner corner of the eye outwards without getting too close to the eyeball. If the redness is severe, you can also use the product as a compress by leaving the soaked, absorbent cotton on the eye for a few seconds.

An aid for the cat's well-being

In short, even if your cat can do most of its own hygiene, there are situations where your intervention can prevent or alleviate discomfort that could worsen if neglected. Cornflower Aromatic Water is a natural, safe and effective product that I recommend to all cat owners to keep their pets' eyes healthy and protected. Do not underestimate the importance of good eye hygiene: Your cat will thank you for it.
