The Poppy is a herbaceous plant that grows up to 80-90 cm tall, the stem is erect and covered with stiff hairs. When cut, it secretes a white liquid. The buds are green, olive-shaped and drooping. The flower is red with delicate, sloping petals that are often spotted black at the base, corresponding to the black stamens.
The seeds are the only part of the plant without active ingredients, they are also edible and are used in the confectionery and bakery industries. An oil is extracted from them that is considered very valuable and is excellent as an emollient and softening agent.
